What a Podcast Studio Costs in India
Almost nobody in this industry publishes a number. Ask five Indian studios what an episode costs and you will get five requests for a phone call. So we collected the rates that are public, put our own beside them, and wrote down what actually moves the price.
Every figure below is either published on a studio's own site or a range reported by studios in that city, as of September 2026. Where a studio quotes before tax, we say so — GST is where most comparisons quietly break down.

Why the same room costs three times more in Mumbai
It is rent, not equipment. A Sony 4K body, a pair of Rode broadcast mics and a properly treated room cost the same in Ludhiana as in Lower Parel. What differs is the commercial rent per square foot behind the hourly rate — and in a metro that is most of what you are paying for.
Which is why a pattern has formed that surprises people: creators from Delhi NCR and Chandigarh drive to Punjab, book a full day, and leave with a month of episodes. A Mumbai studio at ₹2,500 an hour costs more for four hours than a full eight-hour day does here. The travel pays for itself on the first booking.
The five things that actually change your invoice
1. Whether a human is running the camera
The single biggest line item. Published Delhi rates show it plainly: roughly ₹3,000 for two hours of space, roughly ₹5,000 for the same two hours with one camera setup. An operator and sound engineer typically add 60–100% to a space-only rate.
2. Camera count
One camera is a talking head. Two is a conversation. Three lets an editor cut a two-hour recording into something watchable. Each additional angle adds gear, setup time and edit time — expect a step up of ₹2,000–₹4,000 per camera on a session rate.
3. GST, quoted or absorbed
Studios advertising "from ₹1,500/hour + 18% GST" are really charging ₹1,770. This is where two studios that look identical on a landing page end up 18% apart on the invoice. Ask before you compare.
4. Editing — bundled or separate
A full episode edit runs ₹4,000–₹8,000 in most Indian cities, and vertical reels ₹500–₹1,500 each. Agency-style monthly retainers that cover recording, editing and distribution run ₹50,000 to ₹2,00,000 a month. Bundling is only cheaper if you were going to use the edit.
5. Minimum booking
A ₹1,200 hourly rate with a four-hour minimum is a ₹4,800 booking. Block pricing is common in Delhi and Mumbai. If you only need 90 minutes, the headline rate is not the number that matters.
Studio, or build your own?
A home setup that sounds acceptable runs ₹20,000 to ₹2 lakh depending on mics, camera and room treatment; a genuine broadcast-grade room starts around ₹5 lakh. Against a ₹1,499 hourly studio, the break-even is roughly 30 to 40 recording hours.
But that arithmetic quietly assumes your spare room sounds like a studio, that you own three cameras and lights, and that your editing time is free. For most people recording two to four episodes a month, renting stays cheaper for years. Buy the gear when the schedule, not the ambition, demands it.

How much does it cost to rent a podcast studio in India?
₹1,000–₹2,500 an hour for a plug-and-play room in most of the country, ₹1,200–₹2,500 in Mumbai, and ₹3,000–₹8,000 for premium metro suites. Delhi studios often sell blocks rather than hours. Ours is ₹1,999 for a single hour, ₹1,499 an hour from two.
Why is a podcast studio cheaper in Punjab than in Mumbai?
Commercial rent. The gear is identical — cameras and mics cost the same across India. Metro rent per square foot is what you see in the hourly rate, which is why outstation creators batch a month of content here in a day.
Is GST included in podcast studio prices?
Frequently not. A quoted ₹1,500 an hour plus 18% GST is ₹1,770. Always confirm whether a rate is inclusive before comparing two studios.
What hidden charges should I ask about?
Three questions: is the operator included or billed as crew, are the raw files yours on the day, and is there a minimum booking? The answers separate a cheap headline rate from a cheap invoice.
Is building a home setup cheaper?
₹20,000 to ₹2 lakh for a home setup, ₹5 lakh and up for a broadcast-grade room. Break-even against hourly hire is around 30–40 recording hours, before you count acoustic treatment, lighting, extra cameras and your own editing time.
